We love any opportunity to write about Taika Waititi here at Two Beard, and today is no different. In fact, we’re practically giddy at the news he’s been hired to adapt one of Roald Dahl’s most iconic stories for Netflix.
The Academy Award winner will turn Charlie and the Chocolate Factory into an animated series as part of the streaming services new wave of family friendly content, that is also set to include adaptations of Matilda and The Twits. Alongside this all-new adaptation of the iconic text will be a spin-off based on the adventures of the Oompa-Loompa’s.
Waititi has been extremely busy these past few years, largely due to the success of his first big budget movie Thor: Ragnarok, which was a breath of fresh air for the long-runningMarvel cinematic series. Previously we’ve discussed his being linked to a live-action Akira movie, but for the moment that seems to be on the backburner.
No official date for the Dahl-inspired shows has been announced as of press time.
