SYFY Picks Up Child’s Play TV Show

Reading Time: 1 minute

We’ve talked about it for a while now, but the Child’s Play TV series finally has a home, as part of the SYFY Channel’s upcoming programming. Franchise creator Don Mancini will act as Executive Producer, but will also write the series and direct the pilot.

The premise of the show will see murderous doll Chucky turn up at a yard sale in a sleepy American suburb. According to the official synopsis, it isn’t long before “a series of horrifying murders begin to expose the town’s hypocrisies and secrets.” It continues  “Meanwhile, the arrival of enemies — and allies — from Chucky’s past threatens to expose the truth behind the killings, as well as the demon doll’s untold origins as a seemingly ordinary child who somehow became this notorious monster.”

Chucky has terrorized the big screen for 30 years, and now it’s time for him to make his small-screen debut.  The diminutive demon will join other legends of the horror genre, including Freddy Krueger and Ash from the Evil Dead, with his own TV series, and considering the pedigree of those involved behind the scenes, expectations are very high for the project.

No word yet on whether original voice actor Brad Dourif will return, but from the synopsis we can at least expect cameos from Jennifer Tilly and Alex Vincent. Fiona Dourif will hopefully make an appearance too, which brings into question whether the series will pick up where last movie Cult of Chucky left off.

We’ll have more news and the first trailer once it drops.
