Check out my Warlocks
Warlocks 2: God Slayers is a rogue-lite action-adventure RPG from Frozen District. In the vein of Rogue Legacy but adding a multiplayer element where you can team up with up to four friends for a little assistance throughout the game.
The story is simple
You are a Warlock looking to dethrone the Gods who you have angered by killing their minions. Warlocks 2: God Slayers even starts out in a similar fashion to the aforementioned Rogue Legacy in that the initial stages are like a fun platformer/dungeon crawler from a side-on perspective. That is only the beginning though and upon your first death, which will happen, you are transported to the bar which functions as the main hub area. This is where you get most of the missions from in the game.
The beauty of Warlocks 2: God Slayers is that the hub and gameplay style at its heart is really simple. The loop it creates is broken down so beautifully that it gives an almost Dark Souls feel by leaving you wanting to do one more run just to get through the area you are currently in. The combat of the game again is very simple, if you are playing on a pad the range of attacks is split across the bumpers. Your main attack will be a powerful spell that levels up as you progress, it rapidly becomes the most useful thing in your armoury.
The art style compliments the gameplay
The game is beautifully realised with 2D pixel visual. The engine the developers have utilised works perfectly as it scales well and looks stunning at 4K. Importantly the user interface is decent and scales also, so you can actually read what is on the screen because that’s kinda important. The worlds all work feeding towards your goals and keeps you interested throughout. The music enhances the gameplay, starting off light when you first set out before ramping up with each boss that you fight. There has been a considerable amount of thought put into the design, especially the bosses which sit perfectly in harmony with the combat style. This has been my go-to game lately as it’s a perfect quick play and is really satisfying to beat that next challenge you come across.
The other awesome thing is this game has couch co-op which isn’t something you see very often on the PC, hell even with console gaming nowadays. Don’t fear as you can still play over the internet with up to four other people. It’s a great addition having a group of Warlocks running around all at the same time, it can be amazingly chaotic in the way that Broforce was. Though my playtime there were a few bugs unearthed, the biggest being the game would lock up and freeze any progress. Thankfully, this was easily fixed by shutting down and starting again. Top tip, this usually occurred after teleporting to the bar and then talking to someone straight away.
Warlocks 2: God Slayers a great game and for the price, £5.19 at the time of writing, one that can wholeheartedly recommend. It is worth every penny for the fun you will have. The design of both the art and music is stellar, it works so well with the game and you can really feel the passion. There is a degree of replayability in the fact that each of the Warlocks handles differently and playing with multiple people will change the way that you take on each area. For me it is a must-play, it’s not perfect with some minor bugs experienced but hopefully they will be patched with time. Overall a fun game that people will enjoy.
