Is Margot Robbie Rebooting ‘Tank Girl’?

This morning, while scrolling through Instagram (follow us @TwoBeardGaming) we noticed a throwaway post by Tank Girl creator Alan C. Martin which indicated we could be seeing his beloved property return to the big screen very soon.

Worryingly though, the post went on to suggest that although rumors of a Tank Girl had begun to circulate, no one had actually approached Alan and as such, the project – which could also be a TV series – would be going ahead without the creators’ involvement.

Since that time, news sites all over that darn internet have been reporting the reboot is, in fact, going ahead, with Margot Robbie’s production company LuckyChap Entertainment pulling the strings.

Tank Girl began life as a comic strip in Deadline magazine, with Alan Martin and Jamie Hewlett responsible for the words and pictures. The strip grew in popularity to such a point that in 1995 it was turned into a live-action movie, with Lori Petty in the titular role. Perhaps unsurprisingly for a cult character, the film did not do well at the box office and left a foul taste in the mouths of its creators.

Fast forward to 2019, and there have been too many graphic novels to count, and although Hewlett has seemingly moved on, Martin is still very much involved with the character. That’s why his post this morning is as disappointing as it is intriguing. Yes, we’d love to see a new Tank Girl stomping her way across the Outback, but we’d also like it to come from at least one of the original brain’s behind the madness.

As huge fans of Tank Girl, we’ll be keeping a close eye on this one.
