Moonmen have kidnapped your kids, exploded the ground you’re standing on, and now you must figure out puzzles to get them back. Hop in those SMB 2 pots and retrieve keys to proceed. Ratalaika brought this mobile game to the three top consoles and I’m playing it on Nintendo Switch.
Hoggy is a pink looking slimeball that can flip gravity with the click of the A button. Use the flip gravity to manoeuvre around spikes and baddies with power-ups. Acorns turn Hoggy into a block that can break bricks. 8 balls are used to destroy bricks in a downward direction. Some enemies must be controlled in a way that allows Hoggy to move forward in the jar. Take these concepts and spread them across an endless amount of levels.
Checkpoints are helpful for avoiding an entire level restart. There is always the option to pause and restart the jar or just press X. It should have stayed on the pause menu because it’s too easy to shift your grip on the Switch and accidentally press it. As you progress to further levels the quick restart comes in handy in times of frustration.
The goal of each jar is to consume every fruit to obtain the key. If every fruit is not eaten and you’re stuck? Restart the jar. This game would be better played in small increments on mobile than on a Switch. A game to play on the toilet at work.
I’m not sure why but you can swap characters and be Hogatha. She is assumed to be Hoggy’s wife. I didn’t notice a difference between them so you can just be a boy or girl for some reason.
Areas will be locked with a number of keys required for access. Have enough keys and open sesame. Otherwise, go back to the jars and gain the correct amount. Get passed the first area and you’ll find yourself in a boss battle. That was just alright. Gravity swap to hit the boss and dodge some bombs.
I’ve played the previous title on mobile so I’m used to the look and feel of Hoggy 2. It’s just not fun or entertaining to me. The anti-gravity is the basis of the entire game and everything else is planned around that.
