This week’s digital movie deal of the week is Clerks the debut feature by Kevin Smith which is currently available to purchase from £4.99. Check out the original trailer below:
Kevin Smith over the years has created and developed a rich, entertaining world with his View Askewniverse. There is something for everyone from memorable characters, clever writing and heartfelt storylines often set beside outrageous and over the top humour. It all started in 1994 with his debut release Clerks.
Written, directed, co-produced, starred in and even funded by Smith, Clerks was a sink or swim project. The film was shot in black and white over the course of 21 days and follows a day in the life of Dante Hicks (O’Halloran) and Randal Graves (Anderson) a pair of retail clerks for the local Quick Stop. The film begins as Dante is called in on his day off to cover another employee and what ensues, as they say, is history.
The film was well received, it was funny, had great dialogue and an interesting take on the destruction of the Death Star in Return of the Jedi. Clerks eventually got a sequel and even spin-off animated series but importantly introduced reoccurring characters Jay (Mewes) and Silent Bob (Smith) to the world. A loveable pair of slackers who would go on to have the grandest of adventures in a number of films before getting their own movie and will be returning to the big screen soon in the Jay and Silent Bob Reboot.
From director Kevin Smith comes CLERKS – one wild day in the life of a pair of overworked counter jockeys whose razor-sharp wit and on-the-job antics give a whole new meaning to customer service.
Dante is called in to work on his day off at a convenience store – and then the problems start. His ex is getting married, his girlfriend has revealed secrets about her past, his boss hasn’t come in, he has a hockey game at 2pm and another ex’s wake is today. The customers are dim. And he’s not meant to be there!
