BT Sports Will be the New Home of WWE in 2020

Reading Time ~ 2 minutes

The history of professional wrestling is littered with great tag team splits over the years, but perhaps the biggest split of all time has just been announced after BT Sports confirmed it would be the new home of WWE TV in the UK from next year.

For decades, WWE has found itself at home as part of the SKY TV family, airing shows on Sky One and Sky Sports, as well as showing PPV’s on its Box Office channels. In recent years though, the network hasn’t showcased the sport like it once did, with most fans tuning into the condensed highlight shows on Sky One instead of trying to find RAW or SmackDown Live on the ever-changing premium lineup.

As part of the new deal, BT will show the weekly episodic RAW and SmackDown shows in their entirety, as well as shorter versions which will be broadcast at times that’s more accessible to younger fans, and those of us that actually have to go to sleep instead of staying up all night to watch WWE.

The announcement has come as something of a shock for Sky subscribers, but when you look closely at the deal it really isn’t all that surprising after most fans opted to go with the WWE Network for their PPV fix instead of paying the inflated prices SKY would charge to watch shows like WrestleMania or SummerSlam.

It will be interesting to see if Sky has the wherewithal to pick up AEW when they finally launch their weekly TV shows, or if that will remain exclusive to ITV here in the UK.
