Movie Deal of the Week June 3rd, 2019

This week’s digital movie deal of the week is Scream by the master of horror Wes Craven and is currently available to purchase from £3.99. Check out the original trailer below:

Things had become a little stale in the world of Hollywood horror but in 1997 Wes Craven flipped the genre on its head with the release of Scream. Set in the sleepy town of Woodsboro it follows a group of high school students as they are bumped off one by one by a masked figure in typically horrific and inventive ways. Sounds standard stuff but what Scream did differently was in its acceptance of horror movies existing and the golden rules that must be adhered too in order to survive. The opening sequence alone was a clear statement that we shouldn’t take anything for granted. Clever writing, the now iconic Ghostface mask and more twists than Chubby Checker kept us guessing before the big reveal in the final act.

Scream had a major impact on the genre with films like I know what you did last Summer, Urban Legends and Final Destination all taking pointers from the formula created. The appeal of the Ghostface killer has since spawned three direct sequels, a TV series and was the inspiration for the spoof franchise Scary Movie (which was originally the title of Scream).
