All together now: “Mortal Kombaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat!!!” In some rather exciting news, the long-awaited James Wan produced Mortal Kombat movie is finally happening.
Wan – who you’ll know as the busy man behind the Saw movies, as well as Insidious, The Conjuring and Aquaman – was originally attached to a Mortal Kombat reboot a few years ago, but as his portfolio of work built and built, it seemed ever likely that the project had been delivered the most indignant of fatalities. Now though, according to a press release issued in the writer/director’s home country of Australia, not only is there definitely going to be a movie, it’s ready to start production.
New Line Cinema will produce the “epic action film”, based on the hit video game series which has recently released its 11th official instalment. It will film in Adelaide, Australia, with Simon McQuoid on board to direct in his motion picture debut.
No inkling yet as to what the story might be, but with Wan on board we can be assured there will be some pretty awesome video game style violence, and who knows, maybe they’ll use the same soundtrack from the 1995 movie, which starred Christopher Lambert and Robin Shou.
