When it was announced that DC would be reviving their Swamp Thing property for their upcoming streaming service it was one of the most exciting pieces of news from the brand in forever. The character, which was created by Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson in 1971, had previously been the star of 2 cult classic movies, a poorly received 90s TV show, and an animated series, but had seemingly fallen out of favour with fans of the modern day product.
Breaking news today though suggests that DC has abruptly halted production on the new Swamp Things TV series, opting for 10 episodes instead of the planned 13, and completely rewriting the finale to give the show a satisfying conclusion. Whether this means DC is giving up on their DC Universe streaming service entirely, or if this is a unique situation with the Swamp Thing show remains to be seen, but we’re hopeful that when the show finally lands on our screens it will give us the superhuman swamp monster we’ve been crying out for, and sways DC’s hand to go to work on a second season.
For now, though, we at least have the brand new teaser trailer to look forward to, which gives us our first glimpse of Alec Holland’s alter-ego, and quite frankly he looks abso-bloody-lutely brilliant.
