WWE: NXT Results & Recap – April 24th, 2019

Reading Time ~ 4 minutes

This week’s episode started off with Jaxson Ryker vs Humberto Carrillo. I’ve got to say, this Carrillo guy has been making his rounds in the short time he has been with WWE. In the few months he’s been there, he’s already done NXT, NXT UK, and 205 Live. And on top of that, he’s only 23 years old. Who else can say that? Anyway, this match did not last long at all. Carrillo rolled out of the ring after Ryker delivered his Widow Maker finisher pretty early in the match. The fight went into the audience that resulted in a count out. Once that decision was made, The rest of The Forgotten Sons wanted in on some of the action but it was soon broken up with the arrival of Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch.

After the match was a promo for Adam Cole while he was in the middle of a photo shoot. He doesn’t understand why Strong is getting the match with Gargano in the main event because he considers himself the leader of the group. But he still thinks Strong will beat Gargano. Matt Riddle chimes in while waiting next in line for his photo shoot. He says Cole is jealous of the situation. After a small stare-down, Cole says he has bigger things to worry about and walks off.

The next match of the show was Vanessa Borne and Aliyah vs Candice LeRae and Kacy Catanzaro. This match lasted a bit longer than I was expecting. Borne and Aliyah did some offence on Catanzaro for a bit, but once LeRae got tagged it was a different story. LeRae wins with a moonsault off the ropes. This was easily the best outing so far with Borne and Aliyah as a duo.

Following this was two promos. First up was Io. She was asked how she felt about Baszler’s attack on Kairi last week. This was immediately interrupted by Baszler’s gang as they attacked Io from behind. Next was an interview with NXT General Manager, William Regal. He is excited for Kushida’s debut next week. While he’s talking, Kassius Ohno comes in and congratulates Regal on signing Kushida and tells him he wants to face him next week. Regal agrees to the match.

The third match of the night was Street Profits vs War Raiders. Before the match could begin, Ford jumped over the ropes onto the War Raiders and the crowd went wild! This match started off very exciting. The Profits started with a barrage of offence and went for an early pin, which the entire crowd was thinking this was it. This match, though, would go on for a bit longer. The Profits probably had their best match so far but it wasn’t enough to best the NXT Tag Team Champions. The War Raiders would come out with the win after delivering Thor’s Hammer. This was a great match!

After the match was a quick promo with Mia Yim. She says right now Baszler is unstoppable but she learned a lot after their first match and wants a rematch.

The main event of the show was Roderick Strong vs Johnny Gargano. Throughout the match, the two delivered some crushing slaps to each other. And just like all matches with Gargano, it did not disappoint. While the matches were winding down, the rest of the Undisputed Era made their way to the ring. Matt Riddle would come from behind and help fight off the gang. During this, Cole accidentally kicked Strong, leading to Gargano delivering his slingshot DDT for the win. After the match, Cole apologised and said he didn’t mean to kick him. Strong was obviously not happy and walked out of the ring with the rest close behind, adding more tension within the group.

And that does it for this week’s episode of NXT. Next week we have the debut of Kushida as he takes on Kassius Ohno in the main event. Thanks for reading and long live wrestling!
