It’s a great time to be a fan of the Critters movies. Not only are fans being treated to a brand new TV series on the Shudder network, but we’re also getting a long-awaited official movie sequel, and one of the original cast members is making a return.
First chomping and biting their way into cinemas back in 1986, Critters was a film about an alien species called Krites that crash lands on Earth after escaping capture by intergalactic bounty hunters. Originally mistaken by locals as pesky rodents, the Krites quickly make their mark by eating anyone and everything in sight, leaving only a young boy and the local drunk to save the day. The original movie was a huge success for its genre, grossing almost 5 times its original budget and spawning 3 sequels, one of which included a then-unknown Leonardo Dicaprio in the cast list.
Critters Attack! will pick up in the present day in which 20-year-old Drea (Tashiana Washington) takes a group of kids she’s babysitting on a hike that unwittingly brings them face-to-face with the scourge of the galaxy – the titular monsters who have once again returned to Earth for a further course of human flesh. Dee Wallace, who starred as Helen Brown in the original movie will return in a new role as the mysterious Auntie Dee.

The new movie does appear to be less tongue-in-cheek than the recent TV show but maintains the horror comedy vibe of the original movies. We’re also very intrigued by the new White Krite, which appears to be helping the humans. Whether everything is as it seems will become apparent when Critters Attack! lands on Blu-Ray and digital services very soon.
