Former WWE Champion CM Punk made his long-anticipated return to wrestling on Friday night, but not in a way that many fans might have expected.

It was during the main event of the MKE Wrestling show in West Allis, Wisconsin that a masked ‘Ninja’ made his way to the ring and delivered an awkward looking GTS to Daryck St. Holmes. It is believed that although this masked “Superstar” didn’t move like Punk, it was indeed him and he was simply trying to throw people off.

The surprise appearance was later confirmed as Punk by MKE owner, and long-time CM Punk friend Silas Young on Twitter:

Punk was also photographed earlier in the night wearing the exact same outfit as the masked-ninja.

It is unlikely that this ‘return’ will lead to anything further, and is probably just a one-off appearance. After all, Punk had previously gone on record saying if he ever made a comeback it would be where you least expected him and probably under a hood.

“You never know, I could pop up here and there. Let me explain that to you even better. It’s not going to even be televised, it’s going to be me in a ninja outfit wrestling one of my buddies and nobody’s ever going to know. It’s going to be very ‘Monty Python’ so to speak.”

The so-called Best in the World has not commented on the appearance yet, and perhaps never will, just to keep fans speculating.

Of course, this could all be a work. Keep that in mind.
