WWE: NXT Results & Recap – April 17th, 2019

This week’s episode started out strong with Velveteen Dream defending his North American Championship against Buddy Murphy. Both guys got a big pop coming to the ring and the crowd was on fire the entire match. This match was excellent throughout. The Dream came out on top in the end with the Purple Rainmaker.

After the match we see the Street profits backstage going to William Regal’s office to ask for a title match. When they knock on the door though, they are greeted by the War Raiders (Viking Experience?). They inform the Street Profits that they already took care of their request for them and will be facing them in a match next week. Which since the War Raiders showed up on RAW this Monday during the Super Star Shakeup, this might be the Street Profits time to be the Tag Team Champions. They are without a doubt over with the crowd. It wouldn’t be the worst decision.

Following that segment, Gargano comes to the ring and gets a big ovation. He reminds us that he was told ‘no’ 4 years ago during NXT tryouts and now he’s the champion. Adam Cole interrupts and says Gargano is lucky and that he is the uncrowned champion. While Cole is coming to the ring after Gargano invites him, Roderick Strong attacks Gargano from behind and then the entire gang attacks.

The next match was Aaron Frye vs Dominik Dijakovic. This match ended as soon it began with Dijakovic immediately connecting with his discuss big foot kick when the bell rang. After the match, he calls out the Velveteen Dream. I really hope they throw in Keith Lee in this. Their feud is too good to skip over already.

There were a couple of promos after the match. The first was a segment for The Undisputed Era backstage with Cathy Kelley. She questions the emotions within the group but Cole advises everything is fine. Regal interrupts the conversation and gives word that Roderick Strong will face Gargano next week. During this, Cole looks very confused. The next promo was for Aliyah and Vanessa Borne. Aliyah said Candice Lerae got lucky last week and that she was in no condition to compete last week. They advise Lerae they’ll be ready next week and for Lerae to pick a partner to face them.

The main event was Baszler vs Kairi Sane for the NXT Women’s Championship. If Sane loses, she does not get another opportunity for the title. But seeing as Sane was added to the SmackDown roster yesterday as part of the Super Star Shakeup, this seemed like a pretty obvious outcome. The match though was still entertaining. At the end of the match, Baszler was trying to injure Sane’s arm, but Io interfered to prevent this. Baszler’s gang attacked Io and held her back while Baszler injured Sane’s arm. Setting up the next feud for Baszler.

And that wraps it up for this week’s episode. Next week we have Gargano vs Strong and also Aliyah and Vanessa Borne vs Candice Lerae and a partner of her choosing. In two weeks we get the debut of Kushida. This was an excellent episode and next week seems to be on pace to keep that trend going. Thanks for reading and long live wrestling!
