Cloverfield – Movie Deal of the Week

This week’s digital movie deal is the J.J. Abram’s produced Cloverfield and is currently available to purchase from £4.99. Check out the trailer here:

It was clear from our first glimpse of the film that the team behind Cloverfield wanted to try something different. As part of a viral campaign, a short teaser ran before the Transformers movie depicting what looked to be footage from a home video. It was brief but focused on a group of friends at a surprise party when things go dramatically wrong as the city falls under attack from an unknown source. Our mouths dropped as it closed with the Statue of Liberty’s head crashing down a busy street. We were given no name for what we had just seen, just a date.

It delivered it a sense of mystery and with little confirmed information the internet was awash with rumours and crazy theories. It was even at one point believed to be the next Godzilla flick. What we were given was a very good found footage film that introduced a new king of the monsters to the world. It wasn’t perfect, some didn’t like the monster once revealed, but the way in which it was skillfully put together gave us a tense, thrilling and uncomfortable ride from start to finish.

Due to the film’s success, we have seen a number of sequels and tie-ins. The second movie, 10 Cloverfield Lane, is currently on offer also and well worth a look.
