After an awesome first round of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic, we continue this week with the semi-finals. The first match of the show was Moustache Mountain against Forgotten Sons. The Sons targeted Seven’s knee early in the match which left Bate doing all the heavy lifting. And Bate did not disappoint. Bate had a lot of highlights in this match. The most impressive was his double fireman’s carry spin against his opponents. The spotlight was pretty much on Bate the entire match. Sadly though, after interference from Ryker outside the ring, the Sons were able to capitalize with their inverted DDT/top rope stomp for the win. The crowd was not happy with this outcome. And who is really?
After the match was a backstage interview with Matt Riddle regarding his interaction with Velveteen Dream last week. This was interrupted quickly by Adam Cole. Riddle, in return, ends the discussion by challenging Cole to a match.
The next match was Io Shirai vs Bianca Belair to decide the #1 contender against Baszler. Baszler beforehand came to the announce table. After a back in forth match, Baszler eventually interfered in the match causing a no contest. Kairi Sane came to help Io but Baszler answered with a sleeper. Leaving all three out cold in the ring. interferes but gets put to sleep. Io attacks. Baszler puts everyone to sleep. While leaving backstage, Cathy Kelley advised Baszler that she will be in a fatal four-way match with the three competitors at TakeOver: New York. I don’t know exactly who’s going to win that match but I don’t see it being Baszler. Her call up is more than likely after Wrestlemania.
The main event and last match of the semi-finals was Ricochet and Aleister Black vs #DIY. I wish this match would have been the final match in the tournament. This match was excellent from start to finish. The spotlight was on everybody. Near the end of the match, Gargano hurt his left knee and stayed outside the ring. Ciampa was soon met with a Black Mass kick followed by Ricochet’s top rope 630, taking the loss. After the match, Lerae comes out to check on Gargano. Ciampa helps Lerae carry Gargano but Gargano falls at the top of the ramp. Ciampa helps Gargano up, then tries to throw Gargano into the screen but Gargano blocks his attempt and instead throws Ciampa into the screen. Gargano reveals he faked the injury then superkicks him. Leaving Lerae with a very big smile on her face.
And that does it for another incredible round of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic. We, unfortunately, have to wait another two weeks for the finals but next week we finally get the rematch of Keith Lee and Dominik Dijakovic. I would be perfectly fine if that was the entire episode next week and I’m sure the crowd would be fine with that too. Thanks for reading and long live wrestling!
