Remaking a film franchise as popular as Child’s Play, and one that is still going strong in its original iteration was never going to be a popular decision. Failing to involve the voice behind the demonic doll for the franchises entire history would only serve to add fuel to the fire. But despite all the hate, there seems to be some light at the end of the tunnel and it’s come from a very unexpected source.
After decades of as a sci-fi hero and all-around nice guy, Mark Hamill will embrace his dark side after announcing via video that he will replace Brad Dourif as the voice of Chucky.
“If you’re wondering who’s going to play Chucky in the new Child’s Play,” Hamill said, “you’re looking at him.”
Hamill has been a regular voice actor ever since his time in the Star Wars movies and is perhaps as well known for voicing The Joker as he is for duelling with a lightsaber, so this is nothing new for him. Anyone who’s ever seen him perform his Batman persona live and in person will know how much glee the actor takes in playing the bad guy, and we’re sure he’ll be able to smash expectations as the iconic villain, who in this “contemporary reimagining” will be an out of control AI toy rather than one possessed by a notorious serial killer.
