WWE: NXT Results & Recap – March 6th, 2019

Reading Time: 3 minutes

This week’s episode consisted of the first round of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic and did not disappoint. So every match tonight had purpose. There was no filler. Even the matches announced for the upcoming weeks were awesome and had a reason behind them. Let’s jump into the first match.

Our first match of the tournament was Ricochet and Aleister Black vs Aichner and Barthel. This match did not let up as soon as the opening bell rang. Nobody really control of the match the entire and each person had their time to shine. No matter how many times I see Barthel gorilla press someone into Aichner for a brainbuster, I’m always amazed. But it wasn’t enough to put their opponents away tonight. After Aichner gave a barrage of melee attacks, Black answered with the Black Mass for the win.

After the match, we get news that Keith Lee and Dominik Dijakovic will have their rematch In two weeks. If this match is even a fraction of what we got to see from last week, we are in for a treat.

The second match in the tournament was the Forgotten Sons vs Danny Burch and Oney Lorcan. The Forgotten Sons are by far the least liked team in this tournament. Which gives me a bad feeling they just might end up winning this thing. I mean, they are the only team tonight that got no cheers throughout the entire matches. This match wasn’t bad though. Lorcan was selling a back injury pretty early in the match and the crowd was already not having it. It’s like they already knew how the match was going to end. With that said, the Forgotten Sons win with their inverted neck breaker/top rope stomp combo.

The Velveteen Dream came out after wanted to remind everyone while standing on the commentators’ table, that he’s the new NXT North American Champion. Matt Riddle comes out and says that he just wanted to congratulate him and says he wants the belt one day. But the Dream says that the spotlight is on him though. And while he says this, the lights go out, with a spotlight focusing on him. I’m assuming these two will face each other at the next TakeOver come WrestleMania weekend. Which will be weird if Velveteen already loses the belt since he just won it. I just don’t see Riddle losing any time soon. And I wouldn’t be surprised seeing Velveteen getting called up after Wrestlemania.

After that segment, we get word that Io Shirai will be facing Bianca Belair next week to see who the #1 contender is to face Shayna Baszler. I think Baszler will interrupt this match which will cause a triple threat match for TakeOver. And once again it is Wrestlemania season so I wouldn’t be surprised if Baszler loses and gets called up after the PPV.

The third match of the tournament was next and consisted of the Street Profits vs Moustache Mountain. This crowd was 50/50 from the get-go with the chants. As with the rest of the matches, this match definitely wasn’t bad. Montez Ford had a couple of spots where he showed off his high flying abilities but nothing else really stood out in the match. Moustache Mountain captured the victory with their torture rack/top rope knee drop combo.

The final match of the first round was the Undisputed Era vs #DIY. I would have been happy if this wouldn’t have been the final match of the tournament. But we got treated with this in the first round and definitely deserved to be the main event. I don’t think I’ve seen either of these teams put on a boring match. And this match was no exception. I was expecting some type of interference from Adam Cole and/or Roderick Strong but they never came to the ring. This match went back and forth and was just a great, entertaining match. In the end though, #DIY took the victory with their kick/knee strike combo.

The Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic is off to a great start and doesn’t look like it’s going to be letting up next week with the next round. Plus let’s not forget we also get Io vs Belair next week as well to see who the #1 contender is to face Baszler at TakeOver. Thanks for reading and long live wrestling!
