The road to WrestleMania is now in motion as the next stop goes through Elimination Chamber this Sunday. The show is almost always viewed as ‘filler,’ but the card itself boasts some potential corkers.
Now moved to the pre-show, Buddy Murphy defends the Cruiserweight Championship against former champion, albeit for all of a cup of coffee, Akira Tozawa. This could potentially steal the show as both men are capable of putting on stellar performances every time they enter the ring.
Prediction: Murphy retains and rolls into ‘Mania as the champ.
The lengthy feud between Baron Corbin and Braun Strowman looks to come to a head this Sunday. One could say the end is long overdue for this.
Prediction: Strowman wins. We see this being a very short encounter and perhaps even a borderline squash unless we see interference from Drew McIntyre.
The Intercontinental Championship will be up for grabs as Bobby Lashley puts it on the line against Finn Bálor. One could say this is a step backwards for the ‘Demon King’ after the impressive build going into the match with Brock Lesnar at the Royal Rumble. If given enough time and both men bring their working boots with them, this could be a sleeper match for quality.
Prediction: This could go either way but keeping the title on Lashley going into Mania likely seems to be way forward.
In what definitely feels like filler (there’s that word again) Ronda Rousey defends the Red brands’ Women’s title against the hugely underrated Ruby Riot. What more can you say really other than this should be a choice tussle but the finish doesn’t seem to be in any doubt.
Prediction: Plans for ‘Mania are in stone, pending any injuries, so look for the Champ to retain.
The Usos then challenge for the tag titles from the Blue brand against the still totally random team of The Miz and Shane McMahon. Expect a decent battle here with Shane-O-Mac getting in his trademark silly dance and punches.
Prediction: With rumours of the challengers leaving in April after their contracts expire and heading to the land of ‘The Elite, we could see the champs retain. But we could also see the titles switch to keep the Usos from leaving. If we’re pushed we’re going with Miz and McMahon retaining.
We will see the inaugural Women’s tag team titles decided inside the Elimination Chamber. The field consists of Nia Jax & Tamina, The Riott Squad (Live Morgan and Sarah Logan), Mandy Rose & Sonya Deville, The IIconics (Peyton Royce & Billie Kay), Sasha Banks and Bayley and the team of Naomi and Carmella. We see this going over excellently or being an overwhelming mess.
Prediction: Banks and Bayley. A new title should always have someone who can be a credible first-time holder and this is the only choice for us here.
The WWE title will then feature in Chamber action with champ Daniel Bryan, AJ Styles, Jeff Hardy, Samoa Joe, Randy Orton, and late addition Kofi Kingston all squaring off for the gold … and hemp. As fans of this match concept, on paper, this could go down as one of the very best Elimination Chamber matches since its inception in 2002. Action and excitement guaranteed.
Prediction: Bryan is on a hell of a run at the minute and we see him retaining here.
