Neil Gaiman, the mind behind a million and one of your favourite books, TV shows and movies will continue his run of being awesome by resurrecting one of Jim Henson’s greatest creations – The Storyteller.

For those of you who weren’t around in the glory days of Henson, The Storyteller was an anthology series starring John Hurt as the mysterious titular talker, who brought to life ancient fairy tales and folklore with a mixture of live action and master puppetry from the folks behind Kermit the Frog. It ran for 1 series and later followed up with a series based on Greek mythology.

In an interview with Deadline, Gaiman said:

“Part of what fascinates me about The Storyteller is the stuff that we don’t know,” he said. “Who was the Storyteller, why was he telling these stories, was he a goblin, what kind of creature? What I’d love to do is an inside story that’s as long as the outside story.”

Unlike The Muppet ShowThe Storyteller was a dark and often unnerving series that would leave you with that uneasy feeling when you climbed into bed and turned out the lights. In the hands of the mind behind dark delights such as CoralineAmerican Gods, and Good Omens we can only imagine how damn terrifying the reboot could turn out to be.

There’s no word yet on when Gaiman’s The Storyteller reboot will air, let alone enter production, but we just had to share this exciting piece of news in readiness.
