This week’s episode of NXT took a different direction by kicking things off with in-ring action straightaway. The first match of the night was Dominik Dijakovic going one on one with former TM61 member Shane Thorne. This was Thorne’s first televised match as a solo competitor since tag partner Nick Miller called it quits, and he did not disappoint. Neither did his opponent for that matter. The match ended with Dijakovic hitting a backflip and corkscrew dive combination, before finishing off Thorne with his signature move – Feast Your Eyes. The crowd was clearly entertained, reigning chants of “Holy Shit” down upon both men. What a start to the night!

This match was followed by two promos – the first of which came from Adam Cole and the Undisputed Era, who promised they would all be wearing gold again very soon. Cole promised to be the first of the bunch to achieve this by taking out that “One trick Pony” Ricochet later in the evening. Next up was Io Shirai and Kairi Sane, who were staking their claim on Shayna Baszler’s Women’s Championship. They were interrupted by Bianca Belair who reminded them all she was still undefeated – which makes no sense considering she just lost to Baszler at TakeOver: Phoenix. We get the feeling Sane and Shirai would be much better suited competing for the Women’s Tag Team Championship’s on RAW.

The next segment saw Humberto Carrillo and Stacey Ervin Jr, in the ring waiting for their match. But instead of their opponents, out came Kassius Ohno instead. Ohno called the team a joke, insulted the audience and declared he was leaving NXT to go elsewhere. We can only assume he meant AEW, which of course isn’t really happening – at least not yet. This brought out Keith Lee who flattened Ohno and began to mock him. The Street Profits came out next and joined in the fun before finally starting their match against Carrillo and Ervin Jr.

This bout had a lot of flash. During this match, Montez Ford delivered the most devastating side suplex to Ervin we can ever remember seeing. It seriously looked like the guy had broken his neck for real. The Street Profits quickly finished the newcomer off to end the match, but our hat goes off to the youngster for such an impressive TV debut.

Soon afterwards the Street Profits began to call out the War Raiders for the titles. They were soon interrupted by Fabian Aichner and Marcel Barthel, who was then interrupted by Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch. While they are all arguing, War Raiders came out and challenged everybody. This was Undisputed Era’s chance to attack though, which caused an all-out brawl between everyone in the ring. We can only guess that there’s going to be a four-way tag team match sooner or later to decide who the new number 1 contenders are. It’s nice to see so many tag teams getting a push out of nowhere and we’ve really no clue who is going to come out on top.

The next match we got Taynara Conti against Aliyah, which saw the trend of outside interference and sneak attacks continue when Vanessa Borne came out and tripped Conti as she was climbing the turnbuckle. This gave Aliyah the opportunity to take advantage and have her tap out with a Kimora like submission all while kicking her repeatedly. The celebration ended quickly though as Baszler, Duke, and Shafir came out and beat everyone up. Baszler got on the mic and advised everyone to get out of their way and not to piss them off. We’re listening.

NXT’s main event featured Ricochet against Adam Cole and they gave us one hell of a match. Cole focused on Ricochet’s left leg the entire time and Ricochet did a great job throughout the match selling his injury. The crowd was into what they were watching and didn’t favour either wrestler. Instead, we got a ‘Both these guys’ chant, which we’ve never heard before – have you?. After about a 20 minute bout, Ricochet came out victorious but was soon attacked by the Undisputed Era. Former World Champion Aleister Black came out to help but was quickly beat down too as the show came to an end.

Well, that’s it for another week. Next time we finally get to see Gargano Vs, Velveteen Dream for the NXT North American Championship, and hopefully, we’ll see more of Bugenhagen, that guy was awesome. We’ll have all the results right here in the Results & Recap – be sure to check out our previous posts too to keep u to speed with everything NXT.

Long live wrestling!
