‘Y: The Last Man’ FINALLY Comes To FX

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Finally, after what seems like forever, FX has confirmed that Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra’s seminal post-apocalyptic comic Y: The Last Man is finally going to be coming to a TV screen near you.

In a statement to the world, FX announced that they have agreed to pick up the pilot and have ordered a full first season with Michael Green and Aida Mashaka Croal acting as the showrunners, and Barry Keoghan as the titular hero.

For the uninitiated, Y: The Last Man was an epic comic book series that ran for 60 issues starting back in 2002. It was the story of Yorick Brown, the last surviving human with a Y chromosome, and his trusty pet monkey Ampersand. In a world ravaged by a plague and entirely inhabited by women, it doesn’t take Yorick long to find himself in all kinds of trouble – and not all of it because the survivors haven’t seen a man in quite some time, although that does feature heavily.

It’s not been an easy journey for the comic making it to the small screen from the printed page as a Y: The Last Man TV series has been in the pipeline for over a decade. It was finally confirmed that a pilot was on its way mid-2018 after a number of failed TV scripts and an aborted attempt at a movie. Shia LeBeouf was attached at one point, and in truth would probably have been great, but we’ve every confidence in Keoghan who impressed in Dunkirk and The Killing of a Sacred Deer.

FX also unveiled the first images from the show, depicting Yorick in his gas mask walking through a street which is littered with the bodies of men who died during the plague he is seemingly immune from.

We’ll have more details as we get them but for now Y: The Last Man is slated for a 2020 release.
