After a long five months of waiting since it’s release on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, Dark Souls Remastered finally made its way to the Nintendo Switch. And WOW has it been worth the wait! From my experience with the PlayStation 4 version, I couldn’t see any glaring differences between the versions. With the exception of one thing, you can now experience Lordran on the go. Anytime, anywhere. You’re also getting the Artorias of the Abyss DLC included with the game.
For me, this has been a dream come true. Up until now, Dark Souls had been my favourite non-Nintendo game of all time. But that issue is no more. Not only that, this is the best version available. Being able to play in handheld or table-top mode adds a new layer to the game. I never thought I could ever say that I could relax while playing Dark Souls. Now you can lay your summon sign down and wait to assist someone or do covenant work while watching TV. Or you could farm some souls in an area while you commute to work on the bus.
Just like the other remastered versions, there are no performance issues in the poison-infested Blighttown. And more notably for me, the Giant Cat area before the Sif boss fight in Darkroot Garden is now silky smooth. Unlike the PS4 and Xbox One versions running at 60 frames per second, the Switch version runs at 30 frames per second. But I honestly couldn’t tell a difference. Maybe I could tell if it was a faster-paced game like Bloodborne.
For those of you who have been unfortunate to never experience this game you are in for one of the most unique and rewarding experiences there is in gaming. But be warned, this game is difficult. Very difficult. For me, it’s the hardest game I’ve ever played. And I regret nothing! The level design is second to none and has some of the best boss fights you’ll come across. Taking down Ornstein and Smough ranks as one of the most rewarding experiences I’ve ever felt. And let’s not forget about their intro. I already feel that I’ve spoiled enough talking about this game.
Go play it right now!
