Want a relaxing, wholesome video game? We’ve got the one for you.

I delved into the world of clay in this colourful indie game from Second Order. Upon opening the game I was greeted with a bright and breezy introduction screen and cheerful music to accompany it.

The stages are set out as ‘books’ as you play through the game’s campaign mode. Your character? A shapeshifting piece of clay that needs to complete tasks and make its way around its colourful clay word, a wide-eyed little boy watching carefully as you roll. You’re able to transform into various different shapes of clay in order to complete your tasks and it requires some brain power in order to be able to complete levels within enough time for you to get those magic 3 stars that unlock new levels. Unfortunately, due to this if you get stuck on a level or don’t earn enough stars you do need do the same level repeatedly until you manage to figure out how to do it quick enough to get the highest scores.

As I played the ‘Game Preview’ mode, it became clear that it still has some kinks it needs to iron out. The game has a sandbox mode which helps you create your own claymation style worlds but it is difficult to get your head around angling the camera but if you don’t get it right first time, you can erase your mistakes. It can also jitter about a little which, when you’re doing something that requires fluid motion, can make the game difficult to navigate through.

Final Words:

It’s overall a good game with clear but linear content. There’s only so much entertainment value behind it, but it’s relaxing and enjoyable while it does keep your attention. There isn’t much to write home about but if you’re looking for a friendly, colourful and relaxing game to unwind to then this would be a perfect (and inexpensive) game to add to your collection.
