PlayStation Plus vs. Games with Gold – August 18

As with the dawn of every new month, we eagerly await the announcement from both Sony and Microsoft detailing their next gaming offerings for being part of their online subscription services.

First up we have Microsoft, bringing Forza Horizon 2 and For Honour to the Xbox One. With the Xbox 360 receiving Dead Space 3 and Disney Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two, which are also both playable on the Xbox One.

Sony leads with Mafia III and Dead by Daylight for the PlayStation 4, Bound by Flame and Serious Sam 3: BFE on PlayStation 3 followed by Space Hulk and indie hit Draw Slasher on PS Vita. As a special bonus, Sony is additionally throwing in Knowledge is Power which makes use of the great PlayLink feature and Here They Lie if you have access to the PSVR.

Both are hitting big with some AAA titles on show, while Sony is undoubtedly offering a greater selection of games Microsoft clearly edges it, giving access to a greater quality of games. If you are lucky enough to have both services this month is shaping up to be a pretty good one for gaming. With Nintendo looking to roll out their very own version in September, the countdown is on, it will be interesting to see how or even if this has an effect on Sony or Microsoft going forward.

  1. I always see the playstation free games on twitter (don’t have a PS4) and get jealous. This month may not be that great but in the past, I’ve seen some awesome free titles that made me want to have a PS4 just to get them on the low. My Wife downloaded the free xbox games she wanted yesterday, I’ve yet to check it out but she mentioned a schmup?? *turns on xbox*
