Go Vacation – Nintendo Switch

Seven years ago Namco Bandai leapt aboard the Wii Sports bandwagon and released Go Vacation on the Nintendo Wii, much the same as games of that ilk, it was a collection of 50 mini-games for one to four players, played predominantly through split-screen and utilising the unique Wii-mote controllers. At the time the game garnered average reviews, however, it was praised for its open world across the four resorts upon the island you inhabited.

Friday 27th July 2018 saw the release of the Switch version of the same game, not a great deal has changed in the last seven years, we have received the obligatory bump in resolution and some new items, such as clothing and other cosmetics which can be added to your characters. The big difference this time around is that the Switch is void of any type of this game so far, that is until Mario party hits the switch later in the year. As a kids game and a party game Go Vacation does a great job, yes it’s simplistic both in graphical style and gameplay but that’s the appeal, anyone can jump in and have a go, and I guess that was the charm of Wii Sports all those years ago. It’s strange that something which worked so well in bringing the masses to a console on the Wii has not been picked up by Nintendo for their Switch console.

The Verdict

For £35 I think Go Vacation is a decent purchase, particularly for those of you with kids, it’s also a great title for playing with your friends when you’re too pissed top play a game which requires any kind of finger dexterity.
