Full disclosure going into this review, I haven’t played the first game so I have no idea if there’s any link to the second game that would have added to the context in this one. I’m therefore reviewing this as a standalone game and basing its merits purely on this one game rather than any multi-game universe.

It’s a first-person puzzle/adventure type game kind of along the lines of The Witness and the likes. It’s very pretty, the voice acting is pretty solid and the music is decent which makes it an atmospheric experience. I also think there’s a solid idea in the game as it basically revolves around going into memories to progress the plot.

Sadly we now have to talk about the negatives in my eyes. It’s very short, my first playthrough was done in about an hour and that was including about 15 minutes of aimless wandering around at the start while I tried to figure things out. That’s another criticism as it’s not always clear what you have to do at any given point in the game.

It addresses the shortness somewhat by having multiple endings, but it does suffer the fate of many adventures games where you need to complete pretty arbitrary tasks to progress and it can get very frustrating trying to do this. I had to use a guide in the end as I wouldn’t have been able to unlock most of the stuff otherwise.

Final Words:

The plot is, while being a cool concept, is pretty vague and I’ve watched all the endings and I still don’t really know what the point of the game was. At £10ish I’d say overall it’s a bit overpriced for what you’re getting for that money, it’s a £5 game for me I’d say. It’s still much better value than Aliens: Colonial Marines was though so there’s that.

TBG Score: 5/10
