1884 Victorian London, a vicious murderer is on the loose, evading the world’s greatest detective Sherlock Holmes for the past 10 years.

The Adventures of Bertram Fiddle is a point and click adventure for the Nintendo Switch. You play as Bert, a hapless explorer, who has always stood in the shadows of the great Sherlock Holmes. London is being terrorised by Geoff the murderer and it’s up to you, with the assistance of your Peruvian Cyclops sidekick Gavin to thwart the nefarious criminal.

Released originally back in 2014 on PC and mobile devices this game is a standard, run of the mill, point and click adventure, in the same vein as Monkey Island and Broken Sword series. This game has, however, none of those obtuse puzzles which the aforementioned games had.

Bertram Fiddle is an exceptionally easy game. All the puzzles are extremely logical and obvious. This, part one of two, took me just over one hour to complete. It costs £4.99 currently through the Switch eShop, good value for money? Maybe not, however, I enjoyed my short time with this game. The graphical style is lovely, with a nod to cartoon network visuals, the voice acting is great and this coupled with sometimes genuinely funny dialogue, distracts you from the basic nature of the game. Designed to be played on a touchscreen, this is exactly how you should play it on your Switch, cursor movement is far too slow and as such playing this docked could lead to a little frustration.

Final Words:

Controls and length aside, I really quite enjoyed my time with the Adventures of Bertram Fiddle, a couple of things to note though, turn off the music, it’s far too intrusive over the dialogue and despite having been out for some time on other formats, no release date has been given for the second episode.

TBG Score: 5/10
